Right, i need to upgrade my processor. I know everyone is prob still mad at me for buying a HP A1218 and not taking anyones advice but i have a bit of cash saved up and will get a bit more if i need to. I will take any advice from people and not go and buy something that I think is right coz i feel like a pillak for buying the GXF card i did when i could have gone so much better if I HAD LISTENED angry.gif

So, I have a AMD Sempron 3000+ @ 1.8 GHz so presumably i need an AMD processor ??

Tech Specs...

Socket/Technology = 754-pin/90-nm SOI
Model Number = 3000+
Frequency = 1800 MHz
L2 Cache = 128KB (exclusive)

So, i have around 120 quid to blow on a new processor, will save some more if i need it...

well m8 for £120 u should be able to buy something like a AMD Athlon 64 3500+ San Diego OR for about £150 u could buy a AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego.
i think those would sort u out.
by the way what is it u do on your pc?, just play games? & download porn smile.gif.

if u only play a few games then theres no reason for you to get a dual cpu.

hope this would help u,
if u need advise on where to buy them from gizz a bell on msn messenager @ bones103110783@hotmail.com.

u could buy a AMD Sempron 64 3400+ 2.0GHz (Socket 754) CPU at £80,
u may not realise much improvment but yeah its a slight upgrade

plus the L2 Cache is 256KB not 128 on the 3400+ 2.0GHz . so maybe thats the 1 for u unless u keep saveing and go for a new motherboard and then climb to socket 939, but i here theres new AMD cpu's comeing out very soon

I'd get something like a:

Asus A8N-E nForce4 Ultra (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-088-AS) for £70
and a
AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego 90nm (Socket 939) - Retail for £150

Prices from Overclockers UK, total: £220

I'd make sure that your case is ATX compatible first, I have an old Dell, when I wanted to upgrade I found that a Standard ATX MoBo wouldn't fit in the case laugh.gif

If you don't want to spend £220 you could save yourself £40 by getting a AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice 90nm (Socket 939) - Retail for £110 instead

Good luck with whatever you choose mate.

not atx?????? id be bloody suprised.
perhaps micro atx sure but it will be either of them 2.
having said that from what I remeber you went against all our advise last time and bought some shite package pc. which will most likely not have standard mounting holes. this could prove to be a problem.

So you have replaced the graphics, and you are going to replace the mother board and the CPU. And then maybe the case. And then once you have the more powerfull processor you might need a new PSU.... ermmm whats left? the keyboard?

Save yourself the bother sell it and get what people recommended in the first place.
Other wise looks like you might be doing the equivalent of upgrading from a ford escort to a GT40 by replacing the engine then the alloys then the body work ect...

OK you have a AMD cpu, of which needs an ATX PSU.
please understand this.

but probably best to get a new case any how you should be able to get it pretty cheap.

ATX is just a case size, bassically it's the standard tower size.

ATX is a form factor that determines many things, but mainly the form of power that you mother board will use. but this will also largely determine the layout of the holes in side the cash and the orientation of the motherboard.

you will have some form of ATX case and power supply, as AMD do not use BTX and well no one uses AT any more. lol
