This is quite good patching imho, if you ever played everquest when patch day came round you could expect the server to be down from half a day to anything that Sony saw fit and that was a game with subscription fees and of course there was always the nextday patch to fix the patch which followed with a patch to fix that patch and ...... well you get the picture.

the reason the server was down was because of a 3rd party admin mod..
nothing to do with Valve or Steams software delilvery system..
you buy a car, then skim the head, redo the valve seats, bore the cylinders, you still expect it to be under manufacturers guarentee?
you overclock a GPU until it pops, you aint gonna get manufacturers support are ya?
pffft! dont knock a great way to update software until you know the facts..

Snowman I have always wondered that my self.
why dont Valve make a admin type mod to allow multi user admin control like the current offerings.
rcon is great and all but its mainly for the hardcore and can be a bitch typing in rcon banid 0 STEAMID_0:0:2343214 kick when your trying to get rid of someone fast hehehe.

Only facts I know is my pc has fucked up cos of steam a whole lot more than I would like. Yes it is the best platform for online gaming and updating those games on the web. But it's still fucked for lot's of people. I have experienced two updates that resulted in a full cs re-install. Who knows maybe it's my shitty rig.

nope and sadly valve cant really test for every configuration of everything.
my only concern with steam is when they will bring in a monthly subscription.
its going to happen. maybe not for this current gen of games but perhaps for the next, and steam is all setup nicely to deliver such a product. :|

yep and I would stop playin counter strike then and there
its pretty poor that steam took over 3rd party games like counter strike although they making them better than most third parties could do they making you pay for somethin that wasn't originally their idea and plans like DoD which is why I don't play that anymore
